After a day-long hectic and tiresome trekking to the top of a mountain, you surely would love to come across a restaurant that offers you great food and comfort as well. Scherrer has just done that by building The Summit Restaurant in the Swiss Alps located atop Arosa Weisshorn. Christened The Gipfelrestaurant, this one-of-a-kind restaurant in high mountains is situated at a height of (2650m) 8700 feet above sea level and is designed by Swiss architect Tilla Theus.
The anodized aluminum shell of the restaurant provides a unique look which gels with the surrounding due to its rock like color. The building materials are transported from gondola cable car system from Weisshorn and for rapid construction prefabricate timber structure has been used by Scherrer.
On the inside, the restaurant offers 220 seats providing 360-degree views of 400 surrounding summits and the natural materials like pine ceilings and rubber floors has been used for providing a warm environment. The Gipfel restaurant also offers overnight accommodation for hikers who want to spend their night in a cozy bed rather than making a descent down the mountain in a chilling night.
