This year’s annual meeting of luxury watchmakers at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH 2013) in Geneva took place from 21 to 25 January 2013. Watch manufacturers from all over the world presented their artistic creations and latest timepieces at the show.
Swiss luxury watchmakers Parmigiani Fleurier presented two very beautiful wrist watches made with subtle art of wood marquetry (a process of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns or designs).
Demonstrating the world of musical art with the use of a guitar, an instrument with natural links to wood marquetry, the two watches pay homage to two of the most noteworthy countries in world music. British version Tonda Woodrock and the American version Tonda Woodstock features Union Jack or the US Stars and Stripes as the background respectively.
10 days of work goes into each hand crafted dial which consists of more than fifty pieces of dyed wood. Bastien Chevalier, a marquetry artist designs and assembles the dial creating an incredible art piece.
