If you and your partner are looking for a spine-chilling experience this Halloween, Airbnb can fulfill your wish. The home rental website is offering a spooky Halloween experience in Paris catacombs where you can spend the night with six million resting souls. Airbnb is running a contest that will give two daring people a chance to spend a scary Halloween sleepover at the world’s largest grave.
California-based Airbnb shelled out 350,000 Euros to privatize the space in Paris’s Catacombs for 31st October. The offer will include a private visit to the Catacombs with its curator, dinner with private concert, breakfast and a trip to Paris and back. To amplify the frightening experience, a storyteller will have you spellbound with fascinating tales from the catacombs just before bedtime. “Finally, enjoy dawn with the dead, as you become the only living person ever to wake up in the Paris catacombs,” reads the listing.
The transfer of bones of the dead from Parisian cemeteries to the two-kilometer-long Catacombs began towards the end of the 18th century, when authorities realized that the decomposition of bodies in the city’s cemeteries are creating health issues. About 20 meters under the sewers and metro system, the Catacombs serves a popular tourist destination in Paris that attracts almost 500,000 visitors per year.
Well, if this is the experience you are looking for this Halloween, you must enter the competition by accessing the page here. The participants will have to write a 100-word story in English or French explaining why they’re courageous enough to spend a night in the Catacombs. Entries will be judged on creativity and originality and must be filled before 20th October.
