UGears, an innovative startup based in Kiev, Ukraine creates modular mechanical models from high-quality environmentally friendly plywood. Offering unique mechanical 3D models for self-assembly without glue, the brand’s mission is to give an unforgettable time of working together on things that are popular for all ages. The main idea is to connect the hearts of fathers and kids and to get a revived mechanical marvel as well. The kit comes with everything that you need for building a self-moving mechanical model such as high-quality plywood boards with precisely cutout parts and detailed step-by-step instructions.
Designed to freshen up our memories about actual real-life mechanics, these wooden gears will bring back the forgotten knowledge and skills. UGEARS have created more than 10 wooden mechanical 3d models, some of which are hand-powered and the remaining draws energy from rubber bands. The designing of a new model takes from two to six months. However, after multiple improvements and tweaking, the final product ready for users can be built in one hour to half a day’s time depending upon the model.
The most exclusive model of the company is ‘Steam Locomotive’, which comes with a rubber band motor and can run up to a distance of 5 meters. This complex piece includes 500 detailed parts and exhibits complicated mechanism through its spinning gears, pistons and wheels. Another exciting model is the ‘Tram’, which is equipped with a special message box and features a winding wheel on its roof. Then there is ‘Mechanical box’ which can be used for business cards and bankcards.
Beside these wooden mechanical models, there are few other variants such as Tractor, Chronometer, Dynamometer, Trailer, Mechanical Theatre, Engine and Safe. However, UGears have an idea list of more than 100 new mechanisms. The wooden mechanical models project by UGEARS is currently on Kickstarter where it has successfully surpassed the $20,000 goal.
