LUO studio, a Beijing-based architectural firm has created an artistic micro movable library for kids. Christened Shared Lady Beetle, the cute little library on wheels takes its design inspiration from lady beetles as kids are quite familiar with these insects. The designers have used an abandoned bicycle along with discarded iron car sheets and leftover materials of eco-friendly boards to create the ingenious storage cart.
The designers thought of creating the bicycle after watching a friend carrying books and other study material around the school using a grocery cart. They found it very inconvenient and decided to build something creative, interesting and lively to support the efforts of their friend and other teachers as well. Therefore, upcycling discarded material they were able to make a mobile maker classroom for children.
The abandoned shared bicycle was converted into a tricycle with increased loading capacity so that it can display more number of items. Drawing inspiration from lady beetles, a special cover on the shelf was designed to protect the items and books inside. You may have seen how appealing it is to watch lady beetles open and close their wings. Therefore, a similar mechanism was also applied to the cover adding some creativity to the design.
An auxiliary wheel was added to the library on wheels to provide some extra stability. On the inside, a multi-shelf display structure was crafted that make it stronger and more convenient to store items as well. The shelves increases in size from top to bottom with the lowest one allowing kids to sit comfortably and do their reading.
The Shared Lady Beetle library on wheels by LUO studio can serve an inspiration to other designers and firms. Its design is so versatile and universal that it can be customized as per different needs and requirements. Besides serving as a micro shared library, it can also be used for advertising, stalls and outdoor coffee cart.
