Smiling is an important way to make a good first impression. If you smile, it will show whoever you are talking to that you are cheerful and approachable, and make it easier for them to connect with you. However, it can also be a difficult thing to smile as you would like to if you are self-conscious about your teeth. If you want a smile that you can’t wait to share, then there are a few ways to make sure your pearlies are looking their best.
Whitening
If you are conscious about having discolored teeth then whitening can be an easy option to improve your smile. You should always speak to your dentist before embarking on a whitening regime otherwise you could damage your teeth. However, provided they give you the go-ahead you can usually whiten your teeth at home. Just be sure to choose a product that has the ADA (American Dental Association) seal of acceptance.
Crowns
If you have a tooth that is misshapen, chipped or discolored then a crown can restore it to its former glory so it doesn’t look out of place when compared to your other teeth. Crowns also provide the benefit of adding extra strength to your tooth, so they are sometimes used to protect weaker teeth. Crowns will need to be put in by your dentist.
Veneers
A lot of celebrities have achieved their picture-perfect grins by getting veneers. Veneers are thin layers of tooth colored material which are placed over the front of your tooth to make them appear more even and improve discoloration. A small amount of your natural enamel will need to be removed in order to apply a veneer.
Gum Contouring
Another procedure that has proved popular with celebrities is gum contouring. For people who feel that their gums are too large in comparison with their teeth, gum contouring can be carried out to remove excess gum and improve the look of the smile.
Braces
Braces are no longer just for adolescents. If you have crooked teeth and it is something that bothers you, then you could consider getting braces as an adult. A good dentist will be able to install braces that are practically invisible so they won’t impact on how you look, and when your treatment is complete you will have straight teeth.
Implants
Implants are used to replace missing teeth. They are surgically placed in the jaw where they function as a steady anchor for replacement teeth – almost like a root – and are used to hold crowns or bridges in place. They are a long term solution to fixing your smile.
Brush and Floss
The importance of keeping on top of oral hygiene can’t be overstated. If you want to have a smile that looks good, then be sure to brush and floss your teeth at least twice each day to prevent infection causing plaque and bacteria from building up.
Visit Your Dentist Regularly
Be sure to visit your dentist for a check-up at least once annually, and more often if you are noticing any pain in your mouth. Your dentist will be able to spot potential issues before you can, and will often be able to treat issues in your mouth much more effectively if they are caught early.
