With all the time we’ve been spending at home this year, it’s natural to want to make it feel as comfortable and welcoming as possible. One option is to splash out on a large renovation or redecoration project, but thankfully there’s no need to go to such lengths if you don’t have the time or budget for it. Just adding a few simple products strategically can make a big difference to the feel of your home without breaking the bank – or even having to leave the house, as they can all be easily ordered online! Here are four ideas to get you inspired.
Artwork
Adding some artwork to your walls is a quick and easy way to make your mark on your home. Whether it’s photographs from your favourite vacation or important life events, inspirational or meaningful quotes, or paintings that you love, artwork can instantly brighten up a space. You can choose between lots of small frames or just a couple of larger ones to best suit your room, as well as multicoloured or monochrome options to match your existing decor. If you’re renting and can’t fix anything to the walls, try putting your art on an existing shelf or other surfaces instead.
Cushions and a throw
Ok, technically, this is more than one item! However, they work together in a great way to instantly make a couch or chair more cosy and inviting. Having plenty of cushions in a range of different sizes and levels of softness means you and any guests you have can easily get comfortable, whilst a blanket or throw is ideal for snuggling up in front of the TV in the evening – especially when the weather is chillier.
Essential oil diffuser
Wellness products are becoming more and more popular these days, and one such item that is wonderful at making your home more welcoming is an essential oil diffuser. These disperse essential oils into the air as vapor or mist, spreading a delicate scent throughout your room. There are a huge variety of scents to choose from, so you can always find one to match the season and your mood. The diffusers often light up as well, adding to the cozy feel they create. Not only do they make your house smell nice, but the oils you choose can also have other beneficial effects too – for example, try lavender at night to help you sleep.
Houseplants
Bringing a little bit of nature into your home has a wide range of positive effects in addition to simply making the space look nicer. Houseplants have been shown to reduce stress, boost productivity, and even help you recover from illness more quickly. There’s also some evidence that they can improve the quality of the air inside your home – choose a Boston fern, spider plant, or rubber tree for maximum purification. Don’t worry if you don’t have a green thumb, as many plants only require a bare minimum of effort to keep them alive! Just remember that if you have pets, some plants are toxic to them, so be sure to check before you buy.
