Buying a new laptop is not an easy decision for everybody. For some people, this is the only machine that they will use, and picking the wrong one could affect their performance at work or school. Some people have very specific needs too and need a machine that can handle a large number of tasks with no issues. If you’re very familiar with these machines, you’ll be able to see if a laptop will work for you at a glance, but not everyone is as savvy about laptops. If you don’t know which laptop to pick, here are some of the questions you should ask yourself.
What’s My Budget?
The first thing you have to consider is how much money you can afford to spend on your machine. If you only have less than £500, you can’t expect to have the machine with the best processor on the planet, and don’t expect the machine to be able to run AAA games unless you play them to the lowest possible specs.
You will have to be ready to spend between £500 and £1000 if you want a decent machine that can handle multiple tasks. Machines that price won’t have the same build quality as high-end models, but they will feel and look very nice. You will still have to make compromises based on what you need most, however. So be prepared to choose between a less powerful GPU or CPU.
What Are My Priorities?
The second thing you have to assess is how you’re going to use the machine. If you want to do HD video editing, for instance, you will need to concentrate much more on the CPU than someone who wants to do gaming. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider the graphics card, even if you want to use the PC mainly for work.
If you want to get a machine that can do virtually anything, then we would suggest that you look at gaming PCs first. Most gaming laptops can handle heavy computing tasks, but not all regular laptops can handle gaming, so if you enjoy gaming but want to get work done, going for something like this Lenovo Ryzen 5 Gaming Laptop would be a better option for you.
How Good is Battery Life?
The battery life on a laptop should be on top of the list for everybody. Whenever you look at battery life, don’t make the mistake of looking at what the manufacturers say. Take these measurements with a grain of salt and get a general idea of the quality of the battery by looking at multiple reviews and getting opinions from owners online.
How Good is the Keyboard?
A lot of people overlook the keyboard when they pick a laptop, and that could be a huge mistake. If you type a lot, you need to at least test the keyboard before you try it. You can’t go by reviews as your typing style and morphology are different. Some keyboards might feel too spongy for you, for instance, or have too small keys for your hands. This should be a priority for most people, so don’t pick a machine with a bad keyboard just for the specs or you might regret it.
These questions will allow you to find a great laptop for you in no time. Do not rush the process and compare units until you find the absolute best one for you.
